Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Joins Forces with Reality Check for Summer Butt Clean Up

Recently, Claxton-Hepburn Medical center hosted a Summer Butt Clean Up with local teens from Reality Check. Reality Check is a youth-led, adult-supervised, program dedicated to exposing the manipulative and deceptive marketing tactics of the tobacco industry. Youth from across the state work to promote change in their communities through grassroots mobilization and education while empowering youth to see that they are more than just replacement smokers for the tobacco industry and that they can become leaders in their community.

Working side by side with staff from the Medical Center the group picked up 4.5 gallons of littered cigarette butts. Cigarette butts are the number one most littered item in the world and are not biodegradable. When butts are not correctly disposed of, they can end up in the mouths of birds, cats, dogs, and even children. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is committed to maintaining a clean, tobacco-free campus and would like to thank Reality Check for their help in supporting our efforts.
