Primary Care Providers

Trusted Health Care Providers in St. Lawrence County

Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider help ensure that you get the right tests and screenings for your stage in life. It’s important to find a healthcare provider that can get to know you and who will be there when you need them—not just when you’re sick but to help you stay healthy.

Primary care providers are your first line of defense for health problems. These are the doctors you call for check-ups, physicals, questions, and concerns. There are a few different types of primary care providers.

If we can't treat you during our usual hours of operation, we encourage you to visit our Ogdensburg Convenient Care Clinic at 100 Horwood Place, Ogdensburg. Convenient Care is open seven days a week from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM, and you don't need an appointment. It is closed for lunch from 1-2 PM. Our Carthage Area Walk-In Clinic, located at 22075 Constitution Drive, Carthage, is another option. The Walk-In Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, and no appointment is necessary. Our emergency rooms at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and Carthage Area Hospital are also available for your treatment needs 24 hours a day/seven days a week.

Depending on your age and family situation, one of the following primary care providers may be right for you:

  • Pediatrician
    • Doctors who focus on the treatment and care of children (patients ages 18 and under). Pediatricians are highly knowledgeable about medical conditions that frequently affect children and adolescents. They can also answer many of your questions about child healthcare.
  • Internist
    • Primary care providers who focus on diseases and conditions that most commonly affect adults. Internists, also known as internal medicine doctors, coordinate care for adult patients and help them prevent or manage serious medical conditions.
  • Family physicians
    • Unlike pediatricians and internists, family physicians work with patients of all ages. You may want a family physician if you want to have one point of contact for all of your family’s medical care.
