Medical Center
There are few decisions more important than those involving maternity care. After all, you're choosing a doctor who will care for you, your baby and your family. Whether you're looking for maternity services because you're thinking about having a baby or you already have one on the way, the board-certified obstetricians at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center are here to help. And they'll care for you in a facility that is modern, comfortable and just right for new families.
Our work begins before your baby is born—with preconception and prenatal care. Our obstetricians will work with you to ensure that you and your baby are healthy. And your prenatal checkups and tests will take place in an environment that is friendly, calm and private.
During one of your prenatal appointments, you'll likely have an ultrasound test. An ultrasound uses sound waves to take pictures of your baby and your organs. Thanks to our crystal-clear 3D/4D ultrasound imaging equipment, you and your doctor will have an amazingly detailed view. You might even see your baby's facial features.
Routine prenatal care visits might also include assessments of your blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar levels. Your doctor will also take the time to listen to questions about your health and your baby. There's a lot to learn during pregnancy, and your doctor will work hard to make sure all of your questions and concerns are addressed.
While your one-on-one relationship with our doctors will help you learn more about pregnancy and childbirth, we also hold childbirth education and breastfeeding classes regularly for all expectant mothers. The classes are free, and they're open to anyone, even if you're not planning to have your baby in our facility.
To register for a class, view our Events Calendar.
In addition to a warm and family-friendly environment, you can count on an exceptionally trained staff of labor and delivery nurses. Simply put, they love what they do.
Some additional points to know about our maternity services:
When it's time to welcome your baby, we will be there too. We are committed to providing a warm and memorable childbirth experience for you and your family.
Each of our private birthing rooms has its own bathroom. Most have hydrotherapy soothing whirlpools for use during labor. And each has a pull-out twin bed for your significant other. During labor, you'll have control over your choices. Our team will work with you and your family, so you'll feel both heard and respected.
After the birth, we'll help you and your baby to bond. After babies are born, they're placed with the mom for warm, skin-to-skin contact. You also can share a room with your baby. In fact, you can have your little one by your side as much as you want. And if you want breastfeeding support, an experienced nurse lactation specialist will provide that for you.
CHMC has strict procedures in place for surgical patients. Additionally, the hospital is still the safest place to deliver your baby. The following procedures have been established in accordance to the direction of the NYS Department of Health to ensure all of our patients remain healthy during their visit:
At the direction of NYS Department of Health, all hospital visitations are now suspended, EXCEPT for patient support persons, or family members and/or legal representatives of patients in imminent end-of-life situations.
Additionally, laboring women are permitted at least one support person for the duration of their stay as medically appropriate. Any and all visitors meeting these exceptions will be screened for symptoms or potential exposure to someone with COVID-19 before entering the hospital facility.
